Every autumn, the same scene. Someone asks “what are we doing for the end of the year?” in a meeting, everyone thinks “party”, and nobody asks what they actually want out of it. The result, a venue booked too late, a buffet where each department sticks together, and a team heading home at 10 pm. The end of year at work is really a three-month period with six possible formats. This guide lays them out, points to our detailed guides for each, and helps you pick the right one before booking anything.

Budget ranges reflect the price tiers seen on the Paris market and the prices published by the venues in our guides. They vary a lot depending on the day, group size and what is included.

The end-of-year party, the big classic

It is the format everyone has in mind, and the one most often spoiled by lack of planning. In Paris, about ten December evenings concentrate most of the demand, and the most popular venues go by autumn. The real issue is not the venue but the date, then the entertainment in the first hour, the one that breaks up department tables.

For the full planning, the budget tiers and the legal framework, read our guide to the company end-of-year party in Paris. And if the party should happen in a bar rather than a venue, our selection to privatize a bar for a corporate event in Paris compares 8 venues with their capacities and packages. And to do it all in one place, our selection of venues for a corporate party with activity, dinner and open bar in Paris compares 7.

End-of-year team building, to rebuild ties

A group activity at the end of the year does not play the same role as in September. It is not about launching a project, it is about getting people talking who have crossed paths all year without really working together. Short formats, one hour to ninety minutes, work best, followed by dinner or drinks.

In Paris, two families of activities fill that role well. Physical activities, such as the Bomb Squad Paris action game where teams of 2 to 6 take turns every 10 minutes, up to 60 participants over two hours. And activity bars, such as PAN Bar Paris, a shooting bar in the 10th available for private hire for 30 to 150 people, where the activity and the party happen in the same place. Our selection of the best team building activities in Paris compares twelve of them, and the sports team building in Paris guide details the formats that really get people moving.

The end-of-year seminar, to review the year

The end-of-year seminar is a working format. It brings together a team, a department or a leadership committee to look back on the year and set the priorities for the next one. It takes place during the day, ideally away from the office, and is best ended with a friendly moment so the team does not leave on a spreadsheet.

The classic mistake is trying to do both at once, slipping a work session into the middle of the end-of-year party. The team quickly understands they were sold a party to sit through a meeting. Separate the two, seminar in the afternoon, activity or party afterwards. Our guide to the year-end company seminar in Paris details a typical one-day schedule, choosing the venue and the closing activity. For the general method, our team building tips also apply to a seminar, from framing the goal to choosing a supplier.

December after-work drinks, the light version

For a small team, or when the budget is tight, December after-work drinks do the job very well. Two hours, a central venue, an activity or simply a good table booked, and the team leaves before 9 pm. It is also the ideal format for companies that already hold a big party and want a more intimate moment per department.

Our guide to after-work drinks in Paris details budgets, the best days and formats that go beyond standing with a glass.

Gifts and Secret Santa, marking the moment without organising everything

Not everything has to be an event. An end-of-year gift, a Secret Santa style exchange or an experience voucher to enjoy as a team also mark the end of the year, often for less. On the employer side in France, Christmas gifts given to employees benefit from an Urssaf exemption tolerance up to a ceiling per employee and per event, updated every year. Check the current year’s amount before setting your budget.

Secret Santa costs the company nothing if everyone gives a small gift to a randomly drawn colleague. Set a clear cap, around 10 to 20 euros, so nobody feels awkward.

The winter party, the end of year moved to January

If December is fully booked, or if you simply want to avoid the rush, the winter party moves the celebration to January or February. Paris venues are far more available, prices are easier to negotiate, and the evening lands when team energy is at its lowest of the year. It can also replace the traditional New Year reception.

Our selection of venues for a winter party in Paris compares 7 covered and heated venues, from a shooting bar to a winter chalet and a barge.

How to pick the right format

Three questions are enough to decide.

  1. What should the team remember? A party, a moment together, a direction for next year, a gesture of recognition. One main answer.
  2. How many people and what budget? Under 30 people, after-work drinks or an activity are enough. Above 80, a private party becomes the natural format.
  3. Which date is still possible? If you are reading this in November, aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday in December, or switch to January.

Most companies that get their end of year right combine two formats, a short activity that mixes teams followed by a party, or a seminar during the day followed by dinner. What fails is almost always trying to do everything in one format.

To go further on organising team events all year round, our team building and seminars hub gathers all our guides.

Prices and capacities of the venues mentioned checked on their official websites in September and October 2026. Budget ranges are indicative and vary with the date, the day of the week and the group size.

Frequently asked questions

How to organise the end of year at work?
Start with the goal, not the venue. To celebrate the year, go for an end-of-year party. To rebuild ties between departments, a team building or an evening with an activity. To review the year and set the course, an end-of-year seminar during the day. Then lock a date before looking for a venue, and book in October for December. If the calendar is already full, move to a winter party in January.
What ideas to celebrate the end of year at work?
The formats that work best in Paris are a private party with entertainment, a group activity followed by dinner (action game, shooting bar, workshop), December after-work drinks for small teams, a review seminar during the day followed by an evening, a Secret Santa style gift exchange, and the January winter party. Activity-then-party combinations are the most popular, because they mix teams before everyone sits down.
When to hold your company's end-of-year event?
Thursdays and Fridays in the first two weeks of December are the most requested and go by autumn. A Tuesday or Wednesday in December is easier to get. After 20 December, holiday departures make attendance drop. Many companies now choose January, with a winter party or a New Year reception, to avoid the rush.
What budget for the end of year at work in Paris?
Count 20 to 40 euros per person for after-work drinks, 25 to 45 euros for a group activity such as an action game or a shooting bar, 55 to 95 euros for a dinner with a private room, and 95 to 160 euros for a full evening in a privatized venue with catering, drinks and entertainment. In France, gifts given to employees benefit from an Urssaf exemption tolerance up to a ceiling per employee and per event, to be checked every year.
End-of-year seminar or end-of-year party, which to choose?
An end-of-year seminar is for working, reviewing the year and setting priorities for the next one, it takes place during the day. The party is for celebrating, it has nothing to prove. Both combine very well, seminar in the afternoon and party right after, as long as the party does not turn into a disguised workshop.
What if you could not book for December?
Move to January or February. A winter party keeps the celebration spirit, Paris venues are far more available after the holidays and prices are easier to negotiate. It is also a good way to re-energise teams after the break, when energy is at its lowest of the year.
