EVJF stands for enterrement de vie de jeune fille, the French equivalent of a bachelorette or hen party. It is a day, an evening or a weekend of activities organised by the bride-to-be’s close friends, usually led by the maid of honour, to celebrate the last weeks before the wedding. The bride does not choose the programme, she discovers it. That is the whole tradition.

In practice

  • Who organises: the maid (or maids) of honour, with the close friends. The golden rule: a programme designed for the bride, not for the group.
  • Group size: most often between 5 and 15 participants, which points towards privatisable activities or group slots.
  • Budget: highly variable. In Paris, an activity generally costs between 20 and 50 euros per person, multiplied by the number of sequences in the day (activity, brunch or dinner, night out).
  • When to plan: two to three months ahead for in-demand Saturday activities, which sell out fast in spring and summer.

EVJF or EVG?

Same principle: the EVJF is for the bride-to-be, the EVG for the groom-to-be. The programmes look more and more alike, only the clichés die hard.
