EVG stands for enterrement de vie de garçon, the French equivalent of a bachelor or stag party. It is a day, an evening or a weekend of activities organised by the groom-to-be’s close friends, usually led by his best man, to mark the occasion before the wedding. As with the EVJF, the main person concerned does not pick the programme, he happily endures it.
In practice
- Who organises: the best man (or best men), who handle the budget, the bookings and the secret.
- Group size: usually between 6 and 15 participants, the ideal range for team-based activities (action games, escape games, bar tournaments).
- Budget: in Paris, expect 20 to 50 euros per person per activity, plus meals and the night out. Organisers often split the groom’s share between participants.
- When to plan: two to three months ahead for a spring or summer Saturday, group slots go first.
The format that works
The classic Paris recipe: a competitive activity in the afternoon (team-based formats work great), a board game bar or an extended afterwork in the early evening, then dinner. All within a tight perimeter so you do not lose half the group in the metro.
