Having a drink is nice. Having a drink with all of Paris at your feet is a different evening altogether. The rooftop has become a competitive sport in the capital, with its codes, its queues and its addresses that close for winter without warning. We sorted 7 rooftops worth the climb, with for each one the neighbourhood, the floor, the entry conditions and what to know before bringing a group.
Hotel rooftop or independent rooftop, which way do you go?
Two families share the roofs of Paris, and they do not feel the same.
The hotel or department store rooftop plays the service and decor card. You go up through a lobby, you find armchairs, a crafted cocktail list, and above all an address that lives all year because part of the bar is indoors. It is the right pick to impress, or for an October evening.
The independent rooftop plays the atmosphere card. Direct access, guinguette or clubbing spirit depending on the hour, DJ on weekends, and a genuinely open-air terrace. The flip side, most close off season and opening sometimes depends on the day’s weather.
A simple rule to decide. If your evening is planned long in advance and must happen no matter what, aim for a hotel. If you want the energy of a true summer roof, aim for an independent and check its social feeds that very morning.
The independent rooftops, the summer-roof spirit
Le Perchoir Ménilmontant, the pioneer that holds its rank
This is the address that launched the Parisian rooftop craze, and it has not moved from its industrial building on rue Crespin du Gast. On the 7th floor, a roof terrace with a big bar, a snack shack, a pergola, tomato plants and a view running all the way to the Sacré-Cœur. On the 6th, a restaurant entrusted this season to Vecchio and its festive Italian-American cuisine.
The bar opens Monday to Friday from 6pm to 2am, Saturday from 4pm, and Sunday from 4pm to midnight. Worth knowing, the booking calendar opens 3 weeks ahead, and weekend slots go fast.
In practice: 14 rue Crespin du Gast, 75011 Paris. Online booking, privatisation available.
Laho Rooftop, the sunset above the tracks
Perched 60 metres above Gare de Lyon, Laho has an argument few addresses can match, an unobstructed panorama facing west, ideal at sunset. The mood is festive and unfussy, with a DJ on Fridays and Saturdays and a menu of sharing boards.
The way it works is simple. Open every day from 6pm to midnight during the summer season, no reservation. Entry is free on weekdays, and moves to 15 euros with one drink included on Fridays and Saturdays. The only catch, opening depends on weather and private events, so check the hours the day before on Google or the venue’s Instagram stories.
In practice: 5-9 rue Van Gogh, 75012 Paris, steps from Gare de Lyon. Bookable in full or in part for events.
Le Perchoir Porte de Versailles, the Left Bank giant
The first Perchoir on the Left Bank, set on the panoramic terrace of Pavilion 6 of the Parc des Expositions. It is the XXL format of the family, with decor by Fanny Perrier mixing nature and raw materials, and this season an Italian residency, ANCORA, sending out sunny cuisine by Gianmarco Gorni.
The programming sets the week’s rhythm, a surprise evening on Wednesdays, a DJ on Saturday nights, and on Sundays La Domenica, a big Italian-style meal designed kid-friendly, babysitter included. It is the address on this list that best absorbs large tables.
In practice: 2 avenue de la Porte de la Plaine, 75015 Paris. Privatisation available.
The hotel and department store rooftops, the view with the service
Skybar Paris, the top of the list in the literal sense
At 115 metres up, on the 32nd floor of the Pullman Paris Montparnasse, the Skybar claims the title of highest rooftop in Paris. The Eiffel Tower view is head-on, the decor plays retro-seventies, and DJ sets run the evenings.
It is also the most buttoned-up address of the selection for an event. A VIP corner hosts groups of 12 to 30 people on quote, and full privatisation works in the evening as well as during the day, from breakfast to brunch. Open Sunday to Wednesday from 6pm to 1am, and Thursday to Saturday from 6pm to 2am, all year round. The space is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
In practice: 19 rue du Commandant René Mouchotte, 75014 Paris, access through the hotel lobby. Booking recommended, only through the bar’s website.
The Ranch at Terrass" Hotel, Montmartre goes western
The Terrass" Hotel rooftop changes decor with the seasons, and the current one plunges the 7th floor into a West Texas spirit, in partnership with a Texan whisky brand. The view over the Paris rooftops from Montmartre remains the real star, and misters cool the terrace in summer.
It has the widest opening hours of the list. Hot drinks and softs from 7am Monday to Saturday, then the bar takes over from 3.30pm to 00.30am Tuesday to Saturday, and until 11.30pm on Sundays and Mondays. Handy for a late-afternoon drink without facing the evening crowd.
In practice: Terrass" Hotel, 12-14 rue Joseph de Maistre, 75018 Paris, 7th floor.
Bonnie, the Seine view that crushes everything
At the top of the SO/ Paris hotel, in the Morland tower, Bonnie puts sixteen floors between you and the pavement, with a plunging view over the Seine and its landmarks. The venue, by Paris Society, combines restaurant, bar and club, and assumes a festive, dressed-up register, more special-night than flip-flops.
It is the address on this list to book when the evening has to count, a birthday that matters, a question to pop, or simply the urge to see Paris from above at night.
In practice: SO/ Paris hotel, 10 rue Agrippa d’Aubigné, 75004 Paris. Online booking strongly recommended.
Perruche, the hanging garden of the department stores
On the 9th floor of Printemps de l’Homme, Perruche cultivates an oasis spirit, generous greenery, Mediterranean sharing cuisine and sunsets over the Opéra rooftops. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and dinner runs until 2am with last orders at 11pm.
For a simple drink, the outdoor bar runs from 7pm to 2am, without reservation, from May to September. Off season, you go through the restaurant to enjoy the view.
In practice: Printemps de l’Homme, 9th floor, 2 rue du Havre, 75009 Paris.

Your questions
What is a rooftop bar?
A bar set on the roof or top floor of a building, hotel or department store, with an open-air terrace and an unobstructed view over the city. In Paris, that ranges from the 7th floor of an industrial building in Ménilmontant to the 32nd floor of a tower in Montparnasse.
Do you need to book a rooftop in Paris?
It depends on the house. The Skybar recommends booking, only through its website. At Le Perchoir Ménilmontant, the calendar opens 3 weeks ahead and weekend slots go fast. Conversely, Laho and Perruche’s outdoor bar work without reservation, first come, first seated.
How much does entry to a Parisian rooftop cost?
Entry is free in most rooftops, you only pay for your drinks. In our selection, the only exception is Laho, which charges 15 euros including one drink on Fridays and Saturdays, when a DJ plays.
Which Paris rooftops are open all year round?
Hotel rooftops run through the year, like the Skybar on the 32nd floor of the Pullman Montparnasse or the Terrass" Hotel rooftop in Montmartre. Open-air spots are seasonal, Laho opens for the summer season and Perruche’s outdoor bar runs from May to September.
Which rooftop should you pick for a large group or an event?
The Skybar offers a VIP corner on quote for 12 to 30 people and full privatisation in the evening or during the day. Laho can be privatised in full or in part for corporate events, weddings and birthdays. Both Perchoir venues on the list also offer privatisation.
