Celebrating your birthday in Paris means endless choice, and that is exactly the problem. Between bars to book out, restaurants that bring the cake over with music and activities that promise the party of the century, people often end up booking at random the day before. Here is a simple method to choose, followed by 6 venues that offer a real birthday package or a format built for it, with prices, capacities and timelines checked on their official websites.

First, who is celebrating and how many of you are there

That question settles 80 % of the choice. A birthday for an 8 year old, a 14 year old and a 35 year old has neither the same constraints, nor the same budget, nor the same decision maker. For a child or a teenager, a parent books, and they want a supervised setting, a compatible minimum age and a space for the cake. For an adult, it is often the person celebrating, and they want a place where you can play, drink and eat without switching venues three times in one evening.

All-inclusive birthday packages for kids and teens

Bomb Squad Paris, the action game where nobody sits on the bench

Bomb Squad is a one hour team mission through a series of rooms, four physical and brain challenges (floor tiles, lasers, memory, teamwork) and then a final bomb to defuse. The centre is at 94 boulevard de Sébastopol in the 3rd, you play in teams of 2 to 6, from age 7 with an adult up to age 15, and staggered start times let up to 60 participants play over two hours.

And yes, Bomb Squad does offer a birthday package in Paris. It starts at 30 euros per person and includes the hour of play, a table reserved for the group for one hour, unlimited soft drinks and sweets, a souvenir photo, and you can bring your own cake. The big advantage for a birthday is that everyone plays at the same time, no kid waiting for their turn while the others have fun. Our guide to the action game in Paris explains the format in detail.

Batman Escape, for superhero fans

Batman Escape is an escape game under official DC Comics licence, at 30 avenue Corentin Cariou in the 19th. Three 70 minute missions, open from age 7 (accompanied up to 15), for 2 to 24 players per room. The Joker mission is presented as the best fit for kids and large groups.

Two birthday packages, Classic at 36 euros per participant and VIP at 50 euros, which adds a cake, drinks, a gift for the birthday person, a table in the lounge and a printed group photo. The website warns that Saturdays book up two to three weeks ahead. To compare with other rooms, have a look at our selection of the best escape games in Paris.

Virtual Room, virtual reality with no parent required

Virtual Room runs virtual reality escape games at 35 boulevard Richard-Lenoir in the 11th and place de la Porte Maillot in the 17th. The kids birthday pack costs 40 euros per child, from age 8, for two hours on site. The programme is 45 minutes of team VR adventure, 10 minutes of mini games personalised with the child’s name, then an hour of party snack in a reserved space with drinks and sweets provided.

A detail parents will like, an adult does not have to stay, you drop off and come back. The cake is not provided, but you can bring your own.

Venues for an adult birthday with friends

We picked three venues here, and our adult birthday party in Paris guide compares seven, from activity bars to turnkey packages.

PAN Bar Paris, the shooting bar that keeps the whole evening in one place

PAN Bar Paris is a leisure bar inspired by clay pigeon shooting, at 6 rue de Paradis in the 10th. You book a booth with two rifles and a tablet to launch around ten in-house games and order food and drinks, with a chef’s kitchen and cocktails. Booths hold 2 to 10 people, up to 66 by booking several booths, and sessions start at 16 euros per person for 1h30.

For a birthday, you can book one or more booths privately and order a cake with candles. The venue is open Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm or 3pm depending on the day, and closed on Mondays. It is the right call for a group that wants to play, eat and toast without changing venues.

BAM Karaoke Box, for groups who sing off-key with pride

BAM Karaoke Box offers private karaoke rooms, with five venues in Paris (2nd, 8th, 9th, 11th and 17th). Prices start at 10 euros per person for two hours of singing, and rooms hold up to 30 people. The brand has dedicated birthday offers in private rooms, with drinks and extras to add, plus an offer for kids and teens.

Karaoke works best when the group knows each other well. If that is not the case, read our piece on karaoke alternatives in Paris.

Les Grands Gamins, a relaxed birthday around a game

Les Grands Gamins is a board game bar at 19 rue de Cléry in the 2nd, with a proper food menu. You pay 5 euros per person for access to the game library and the staff’s advice, then order from the menu. The bar is closed on Mondays.

It is the gentlest option on the list, perfect for a birthday with 6 or 8 people who mostly want to chat and laugh around a table. Our selection of board game bars in Paris has more venues in the same spirit.

Bar, restaurant or private hall, when it is the best choice

Activities are not the only answer. A private bar or restaurant space is still the right choice when the group is bigger than an activity can handle, when the birthday is first and foremost a dinner, or when you want to dance late. Many Paris bars will reserve an area with no hire fee in exchange for a minimum spend, to be negotiated before you sign. A private hall mostly makes sense from 40 or 50 people, or for a big milestone party like a 30th or 40th.

The most common approach is to combine both. One hour of activity in the late afternoon, then dinner or drinks nearby. If you want to skip the classic bar without giving up the drinks, our guide to alternatives to a classic bar in Paris reviews the formats that mix games and drinks.

Booking without stress, the traps to avoid

Three mistakes come up all the time. The first is booking too late. For a Saturday, allow two to three weeks, a month during school holidays and in December. The second is confusing total capacity with simultaneous capacity. A venue that advertises 60 people may have them play in waves, and half the group waits while the other half plays. Always ask how many people play at the same time.

The third is forgetting the minimum age and supervision rules. Most activities on this list accept kids from 7 or 8, but require an adult up to age 15. Also check whether the cake is provided, allowed or optional, and whether the reserved space is included in the price or charged separately.

Frequently asked questions

Where can a group celebrate a birthday in Paris?
It depends on the age and the number of guests. For a group of kids or teens, go for an activity with a birthday package, action game, escape game or virtual reality, which combines the game with a reserved space for the cake. For a group of adults, an activity bar or a private karaoke room keeps the whole evening in one place. Above 20 people, check the real number of people who can play at the same time, not just the total capacity.
Which venues offer a birthday package in Paris?
Several Paris activities have a dedicated package. Bomb Squad offers a birthday package from 30 euros per person with one hour of play, a table reserved for one hour, soft drinks and sweets. Batman Escape has two packages, 36 and 50 euros per participant. Virtual Room has a 40 euro pack per child from age 8. BAM Karaoke Box and PAN Bar Paris offer birthday deals in private rooms for adults.
How much does a birthday party cost in Paris?
Count on 30 to 50 euros per person for a full birthday package with activity, reserved space and drinks. A board game bar starts at around 5 euros per person before drinks, a private karaoke room at 10 euros per person for two hours, a shooting bar at 16 euros for 1h30. For ten guests, the total budget for an all-inclusive package is therefore between 300 and 500 euros.
How far ahead should you book a birthday party in Paris?
Two to three weeks for a Saturday is a reasonable timeline, and Batman Escape states that its Saturdays book up within that window. During school holidays and in December, plan a month. On weekdays or Sundays, one to two weeks is usually enough.
What birthday activity works for kids aged 7 to 12?
Team formats where everyone plays at the same time work best. Action games and escape games are open from age 7 with an accompanying adult, virtual reality from age 8. The thing to check is each venue’s minimum age and whether an adult has to be present during the game.
Can you bring your own birthday cake?
In most birthday packages, yes. Bomb Squad and Virtual Room let you bring your cake and provide drinks and sweets. Batman Escape includes a cake in its VIP package, and PAN Bar Paris offers a cake with candles to order. Always ask when you book, especially for a cake that needs to stay chilled.
